Kenya - Kamuthanga Primary School

Machakos is a major centre for the surrounding rural region, 64 Kms SE of Nairobi, with of population of 195,000 - mostly from the Akamba tribe. In particular the area has a high number of schools for the deaf, blind and mentally and physically handicapped. Kamuthanga school is situated close to the town of Mutituni on the Kangundo Road, about 10kms from Machakos Town. It has 672 pupils and 15 members of staff. Volunteers from Africa & Asia Venture help with the teaching of English, sport, HIV/ Aids programmes, creative arts, Maths and science. This is the first school to receive donated school kits through AV volunteers who felt that the project was a great success - they just wished they had enough bags to go round the whole school!
